Day 24 — The Power of Words

Scripture:

“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” — Proverbs 18:21

A split image shows stormy clouds and lightning on the left with flowers, and sunlight with a waterfall on the right. A dove holding a puzzle piece and feather connects both sides, with “Hight” written in the center.

Today’s Devotional

Words are never neutral.

Every sentence we speak carries weight—able to heal or to harm, to build up or to break down. Scripture reminds us that our tongues hold the power of life and death.

A kind word can lift a weary heart.

A harsh one can leave a lasting wound.

In moments of frustration, it’s easy to forget how deeply our words can shape the people around us—and even our own hearts.

God calls us to speak with grace, truth, and love.

When our words flow from a heart filled with His Spirit, they become instruments of peace, encouragement, and blessing. But when we speak carelessly, we risk spreading bitterness and division.

Before we speak, a simple prayer can change everything:

“Lord, let my words bring life.”

Reflect & Pray

Reflect:

Think about your recent conversations—did your words bring life or harm?

How can you use your voice today to reflect God’s kindness and truth?

Pray:

Father, teach me to guard my tongue.

Fill my speech with wisdom and grace.

May my words reflect Your love and bring encouragement to others. Amen.

Today’s Insight

Proverbs repeatedly emphasizes the power of words because they reveal the heart’s condition.

Jesus echoed this truth in Matthew 12:34: “For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.”

When we let God transform our hearts, our words follow—becoming vessels of His light.

Every word we speak is a seed; may ours grow into fruit that nourishes, uplifts, and glorifies Him.
