Scripture:

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” — Joshua 1:9

Today’s Devotional

Obedience often looks simple—until it costs us something.

For Joshua, obeying God meant stepping into leadership after Moses, leading a restless nation into unknown territory. The task was enormous, and the fear must have been real. But before Joshua ever faced Jericho, God reminded him of one essential truth: “I will be with you wherever you go.”

Courage doesn’t come from confidence in ourselves; it’s born from confidence in God’s presence.

When He calls us to obey—whether that means forgiving someone, taking a risk, or standing firm in faith—He never sends us alone.

Every command of God is accompanied by the promise of His companionship.

True courage isn’t the absence of fear; it’s trusting God enough to take the next step anyway.

Reflect & Pray

Reflect:

What step of obedience feels intimidating right now?

How might remembering God’s presence give you the courage to move forward?

Pray:

Lord, give me the courage to obey You even when I’m afraid.

Remind me that I never walk alone—You are with me wherever I go.

Help my faith to be stronger than my fear. Amen.

Today’s Insight

Joshua 1 marks a new chapter for God’s people—the promise of the land finally becoming reality. Yet before giving military strategy or leadership advice, God focuses on Joshua’s heart: “Be strong and courageous.”

The repetition of this command (vv. 6–9) reveals what courage truly is: a daily choice to trust God’s word over our worries.

When obedience feels risky, remember—God’s presence is not just beside you; it goes before you.
