Day 22 — Hope in Suffering

Scripture:

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” — Romans 8:28

A person with a halo kneels and prays between a dark storm with lightning and a peaceful waterfall, surrounded by flowers, illustrating contrast between turmoil and tranquility.

Today’s Devotional

Pain has a way of making time stand still.

When life hurts—when prayers seem unanswered and the future feels dim—it’s easy to wonder where God is. Yet Romans 8:28 whispers a promise: even here, in the ache and confusion, God is working.

This verse doesn’t say that all things are good.

It says God works them together for good.

That means your heartbreak, loss, or disappointment are not wasted. God is weaving them into a greater story—one of redemption, growth, and grace.

Suffering refines us in ways comfort never could. It deepens compassion, builds endurance, and draws us closer to the heart of Christ, who Himself suffered for our sake.

Hope in suffering isn’t about denying pain—it’s about trusting that pain has a purpose.

When we can’t trace His hand, we can still trust His heart.

Reflect & Pray

Reflect:

What hardship in your life has God used to shape your faith?

How can you lean on His promise in Romans 8:28 during this season?

Pray:

Father, thank You for working even when I cannot see it.

Help me trust Your purpose through my pain.

Turn my suffering into strength, and my waiting into worship. Amen.

Today’s Insight

Paul’s words in Romans 8:28 come after describing a world groaning under suffering and brokenness. Yet he anchors his hope in God’s sovereignty—a reminder that nothing escapes His plan.

Even our pain has meaning when surrendered to Him.

The cross itself proves that out of the deepest sorrow can come the greatest redemption.
